Breast Augmentation Q & A

What is breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure that enhances the shape and size of your breasts. Breast augmentation doesn’t always involve implants. A breast lift that tightens your skin to reposition the breasts can dramatically improve the look and contour of your breasts.

Implants are necessary to increase breast size. Dr. Mullins and his team stay up to date on the latest procedures, using the most innovative technology for both breast implants and breast lifts. This allows them to achieve your desired results with minimal scarring.

Why would I consider breast augmentation?

The decision to have breast augmentation is a personal choice that women make to address a variety of aesthetic concerns. Some of the benefits of breast augmentation include:

  • Increasing breast size
  • Lifting sagging breasts
  • Correcting asymmetry
  • Reshaping elongated breasts

If you were born with small or asymmetrical breasts, or if your breast position and size changed after pregnancy and breastfeeding, breast augmentation may be right for you.

For mothers who have completed their families, Dr. Mullins offers the mommy makeover procedure to address all the changes that motherhood brings to your body.

How is breast augmentation surgery performed?

Dr. Mullins performs breast augmentation procedures in a surgical setting under general anesthesia. Typically, he makes a single incision in each breast, positioned either underneath your breast, under your arm, or within your areola.

For a breast lift, Dr. Mullins lifts, tightens, and removes excess skin if needed. For implants, he inserts the implant between your breast tissue and chest wall. He then carefully positions the implant before closing the incision.

How long does recovery take?

Most patients can go home the same day as their breast augmentation surgery. You can expect swelling and discomfort, and you’ll need to wear bandaging for the first several days. Dr. Mullins provides you with pain medication, antibiotics, and detailed instructions for at-home care.

Typically, patients can resume normal activities about a week after their procedure. However, Dr. Mullins may restrict you from strenuous activity for up to three weeks.

Once all the swelling subsides, you can enjoy the impressive results of your breast augmentation. Your natural-looking new contours and curves give you a stunning silhouette and a boost of confidence.
