Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure designed to change the shape or size of your nose to address cosmetic or functional issues. Also called a nose job, rhinoplasty offers cosmetic correction of features and functional problems caused by injuries or genetics.
Rhinoplasty can soften your nose’s appearance and address a deviated septum or other irregularities that cause breathing problems.
Some of the nose features that can be adjusted with rhinoplasty surgery include:
Dr. Mullins has the knowledge and artistic skills to create an individualized look for each patient. He performs rhinoplasty surgery that offers natural-looking results that harmonize with your facial features for a well-proportioned appearance.
Dr. Mullins performs rhinoplasty surgery in a surgical setting under general anesthesia. He makes small incisions within your nostrils and then uses slender instruments to remove cartilage, tissue, or bone and reposition internal structures. In some cases, Dr. Mullins takes a small amount of cartilage from another part of your body to graft onto nose cartilage.
When Dr. Mullins completes internal adjustments, he repositions and tightens the skin around your nose, then closes the incisions with dissolving sutures. You spend some time in recovery after your procedure, but you can usually go home that day. Because of the anesthesia, you’ll need to have someone drive you home from the hospital.
When you leave the hospital, your nose is packed with surgical gauze, splinted, and bandaged. These remain in place for one week. After they’re removed, you can resume work and most activities. You can expect some bleeding, drainage, and discomfort after your surgery.
Dr. Mullins provides you with detailed instructions for at-home care and prescriptions for pain medication and antibiotics. Be sure to follow all instructions carefully to ensure proper healing.
It can take several months for swelling to subside as healing continues. The results of your rhinoplasty appear gradually during this time. When healing is complete, your nose looks naturally more proportional and shapely.
